| A recent franchise, the Minnesota Wilds played their first NHL game against the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim on October 6, 2000. While they lost their first game, it took just two seasons for the team to make a run for the Cup. In 2003, under the direction of legendary coach Jacques Lemaire, the young Wilds trounced the opposition to play to the semi-finals in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Lemaire was rewarded with the Jack Adams Award for outstanding head coach in June of 2003. He is the fifth coach in NHL history to win the honour more than once (the first time being 1994 while coach of the New Jersey Devils). |
